A dental implant is a quick and permanent solution to lost or broken teeth. We’ll talk more about the process in the office but to give you a quick rundown of what to expect:

The process starts with a titanium cylinder that Dr. Genieva inserts where the missing tooth resides. Using highly precise digital scans, our team will then create and place a final restoration over the cylinder which looks and functions like a real tooth.  After the implant is placed and restored, you care for it like any other tooth.  Advantages of implants over denture or bridges include:

  • Unlike bridges, your neighboring teeth do not have to be ground down to accommodate crowns.
  • Implants act as an “anchor” so it can imitate the force of a tooth root in the jaw which reduces bone loss.
  • Implants can help denture wearers speak and eat more comfortably and confidently.
  • Implants have an exceptional success rate and produce effective long-term results.

Ouch, sounds like it hurts…

Yeah, not so much actually. Implants are a minimally invasive procedure and can usually be placed in a matter of minutes. On the day of your procedure, you’ll be placed under local anesthesia so you will feel no pain during the procedure. And most patients report feeling little to no discomfort nor disruption to their daily life after the procedure. While cases vary, recovery is often prompt, and most patients can return to work or school the following day. If bone grafting is required prior to the placement of an implant, you may experience slightly longer treatment and recovery times, but the pain should still be little to none.
